Vesterende Ballum is one of the small villages that together make up Ballum in Tønder Municipality, set in the flat marshland close to the Wadden Sea in the south-west of South Jutland. Here you find a quiet cultural landscape of dikes, grazing sheep and wide meadows that flood with the seasons. The village is known for its well-preserved, often thatched farmhouses, whose brick façades reflect the region's old building traditions. From the dikes, vast skies open over the Wadden Sea, part of the national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In autumn, enormous flocks of starlings – the famous "black sun" – sweep across the marsh in one of Denmark's most beautiful natural spectacles. Vesterende Ballum is a peaceful base for walking, cycling and day trips to Rømø and Tønder, a place where light, wind and water set the rhythm of the day.
