Husum-Ballum is a small marshland village in the Ballum parish of South Jutland, set just inland from the Wadden Sea in the far southwest of Denmark. Part of the historic Ballum settlements, it sits among flat, wind-swept polders where dikes hold back the tides and sheep graze on salt meadows. The surrounding landscape belongs to the Wadden Sea National Park and UNESCO World Heritage area, famed for its shifting mudflats, migrating birds and the autumn "Black Sun" starling murmurations. From here you can reach the sea dike at Ballum Sluse, walk or cycle quiet lanes past thatched farmhouses, and continue to the island of Rømø via its causeway. The nearby villages preserve old churches and low, huddled houses built to withstand storm surges. Husum-Ballum offers a tranquil base for exploring one of Denmark's most atmospheric and unspoilt coastal regions.
