Bådsbøl-Ballum is a small village set in the flat marshland of South Jutland, part of the historic Ballum area in Tønder Municipality. It lies close to the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and national park, and is surrounded by dikes, meadows and vast open skies. The district holds old thatched farmhouses and sea-captains' homes from the days when seafaring and trade shaped the region. From the Ballum sluice you can walk along the dike and witness the tides, as the sea retreats to reveal the great mudflats. In autumn, thousands of starlings gather for the famous "Black Sun" spectacle over the marsh. The dark night sky makes this an ideal place for stargazing. Rømø and Tønder are only a short drive away, and the village is a quiet base for exploring the marsh's raw nature, rich birdlife and South Jutland heritage.
