Ypnasted

Ypnasted is a tiny former fishing harbour clinging to the granite coast of Bornholm, Denmark's sun-drenched Baltic island. Set between the artist town of Svaneke and the smokehouses of Listed, it is one of the string of miniature natural harbours that Bornholm's fishermen once blasted and built into the rocks to shelter their herring boats. Today only a handful of houses and a diminutive stone jetty remain, framed by wind-sculpted cliffs, tidal pools and clear turquoise water. The coastal footpath (Kyststien) threads right past, offering some of the island's most dramatic sea views and easy access to secluded bathing spots on the smooth rocks. Quiet, unspoilt and gloriously off the beaten track, Ypnasted rewards walkers, swimmers and anyone seeking the raw, elemental beauty of Bornholm's eastern shore.
