Bølshavn is one of Bornholm's smallest and most captivating fishing hamlets, tucked between the smooth granite rocks of the island's east coast, midway between Listed and Svaneke. Its tiny natural harbour was once blasted and carved out of the stone, and a few wooden boats and fishing gear still rest against the old quays. Behind the harbour, a handful of half-timbered cottages and red herring sheds cling to the slope, relics of an age when the herring catch kept the coast alive. From here you can follow the coastal path along the open Baltic, where waves break against the bare cliffs and the sea shifts colour with the weather. There are no shops and no noise, only wind, gulls and water. Bølshavn is a place to pause, breathe and feel the original, rugged Bornholm, before the road carries on to the livelier towns along the coast.
