Skrækkenborg is a small, modern settlement on the island of Funen, tucked just a kilometre south of the historic harbour town of Kerteminde in Denmark's Region of Southern Denmark. Despite its dramatic-sounding name, it is a quiet residential community of around 270 people, a number that only crossed two hundred for the first time in 2008. Surrounded by the gently rolling farmland of eastern Funen, it makes an unhurried base for exploring the wider area. Kerteminde's cobbled streets, working marina, fresh-fish restaurants and sandy beaches lie within easy reach, while the village of Revninge and its parish church sit two kilometres to the south. Odense, the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, is about 22 kilometres west. Here you trade crowds for calm – coastal air, open skies and the everyday rhythm of Danish country life close to the sea.
