Ladby is a quiet village in the northeast of Funen, just a few kilometres from the fjord town of Kerteminde. It is known far beyond its size thanks to the Ladby ship – Denmark's only preserved Viking ship burial. Around the year 925, a powerful chieftain was laid to rest here in a 22-metre vessel, together with horses, dogs and rich grave goods. The imprint of the ship still lies within the burial mound today, sheltered beneath an earth-covered dome, while the Viking Museum Ladby tells the story through finds and reconstructions. Around it stretches a gentle landscape of fields, hedgerows and views over the Kertinge Nor inlet, perfect for calm walks along the water.
