Ramten is a small village on the Djursland peninsula in Norddjurs Municipality, eastern Jutland. Modest in size, it is best known for the outstanding nature that surrounds it. Just to the south lie Ramten Sø and Dystrup Sø, two protected shallow lakes that together with Ramten Skov forest form one of the peninsula's richest wildlife areas. Diverse birdlife thrives here, and marked trails wind through deciduous woodland, bogs and along the still water, where reed beds rustle through the summer. Shaped by the last Ice Age, the landscape carries the marks of generations of farming, with scattered farmsteads and fields set between the forest edges. Ramten makes a peaceful base for walking, birdwatching and cycling across rolling Djursland, far from the busy coastal resorts. From here it is a short drive to Grenaa, the Gammel Estrup manor house and the rest of this scenic peninsula.
