Djurs Sommerland

Djurs Sommerland is Scandinavia's largest amusement park, set in the Djursland peninsula just north of the village of Nimtofte, about 23 kilometres west of Grenaa and 36 kilometres east of Randers. The park opened in 1981 and has expanded almost every year since, growing into a sprawling attraction with more than 60 rides spread across distinct themed areas. It is especially known for its thrill rides, including the Piraten roller coaster and the Skatteøen water slide, but the emphasis throughout is firmly on families - the majority of rides are designed to be accessible across a wide range of heights and ages. Younger children have their own worlds in Bondegårdsland and Cowboyland, while a water park with heated pools and slides makes a warm summer day especially rewarding. With free parking and no extra charge for individual rides once you are inside, it is well suited to a full day out. In recent years the park has drawn around 800,000 visitors annually, making it the fifth-largest tourist attraction in Denmark. The season runs from around May until mid-October, with special Halloween opening days added in October. A car is the easiest way to arrive, roughly an hour's drive from Aarhus. A local tip: buy tickets online for a discount and arrive early to reach the most popular rides before the queues build up.
