Mols Bjerge National Park

Mols Bjerge National Park (Nationalpark Mols Bjerge) protects one of Denmark's most beautiful and distinctive landscapes, on the Djursland peninsula in Syddjurs Municipality, Central Jutland. Inaugurated on 29 August 2009 as one of Denmark's national parks, it covers around 180 square kilometres of hills, woodlands, coastline and open heath. The rolling terrain of the Mols Hills was shaped during the last Ice Age, when retreating glaciers left behind the dramatic ridges and hollows that give the park its unique character. The hills rise to about 137 metres, and the area is extraordinarily rich in wildlife: more than half of all wild plant species found in Denmark grow here, alongside abundant birds and insects. It is a paradise for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers, with marked trails leading through constantly changing scenery. A highlight is the climb to Trehøje, whose summit rewards visitors with one of the finest panoramas in the region, sweeping out over the waters of the Kattegat. As a protected natural area, the park is open and free to explore at any time of day, all year round. A good starting point is Molsvej 88, 8400 Ebeltoft, near the charming old town of Ebeltoft.
