Jungshoved By is a peaceful village out on the Jungshoved peninsula in south-eastern Zealand, surrounded by Præstø Fjord and low, gentle coastlines. The village landmark is the whitewashed Jungshoved Church, which crowns a hilltop where a royal castle once stood in the Middle Ages – the earthen ramparts of that stronghold can still be traced beside the church. The area is sparsely populated and rural, with fields, coastal meadows and wide views across the water, making it a favourite spot for walkers, birdwatchers and cyclists. From the peninsula it is a short trip to the market town of Præstø, with its cosy harbour and shops. Jungshoved breathes calm and speaks of a distant past shaped by royal power and farming. Visitors come for the quiet, the open landscape and the beautiful light that has long drawn artists to this corner of South Zealand.
