Præstø Fjord

Præstø Fjord is a shallow, sheltered inlet on the east coast of Zealand, near the small market town of Præstø in Vordingborg municipality. Together with its low islands, including Maderne, Storeholm and Lilleholm, the fjord forms a protected wildlife reserve and one of the most valuable wetland areas in this part of Denmark. The calm, brackish waters and surrounding meadows attract large numbers of birds, and the area is known as a good place to look for white-tailed eagles, mute swans and many migratory species that use the coast on their journeys. This makes it a rewarding destination for birdwatchers, walkers and anyone drawn to quiet coastal scenery away from the crowds. The town of Præstø itself sits on the fjord shore and adds to the appeal, with historic streets, a small artist community and an active marina where boats come and go. Together, the fjord and the town offer a gentle mix of nature and local life: a place to walk along the water, watch birds, and enjoy the unhurried atmosphere of the southern Zealand coast. Binoculars are well worth bringing for the birdlife.
