Faxe Ladeplads sits on Faxe Bay along the east coast of southern Zealand and is one of the region's most laid-back seaside towns. It began as a shipping harbor, where limestone from the vast Faxe quarry a few kilometers inland was carried down by rail and sent out across the world by sea. Today the mood is far calmer. The long, shallow sandy beach is perfect for families with children, and from the pier and the snug marina you can watch fishing boats and sailors come and go. In summer the waterfront promenade fills with visitors enjoying ice cream, and there are bathing jetties, kiosks and green spaces right by the water. The town makes a fine base for trips to Faxe itself, to the striking limestone quarry, and further north to Stevns Klint, a UNESCO World Heritage cliff.
