Vester Torup sits in the far northwest of Jutland in the Han Herred district, a short way inland from the churning coast of Jammerbugten bay. The village is small and peaceful, ringed by flat farmland that gradually gives way to wind-shaped dunes and the vast Vester Thorup dune plantation. Here open fields meet pine forest and heath, and the air always carries a faint tang of salt from the North Sea. The region is known for its clear light and enormous skies, which have long drawn walkers, cyclists and lovers of quiet nature. An old Dutch-style windmill recalls the village's past as grain country. From Vester Torup it is a short trip to broad bathing beaches, to bird-rich meadows, and to the dramatic Bulbjerg cliff further west.
