Rejsby is a quiet parish village in the marshland of South Jutland, in Tønder Municipality, just a few kilometres from the Wadden Sea. Here the flat, fertile marsh meadows stretch to the horizon, crossed by dikes, ditches and the winding Rejsby Å stream. The village gathers around the whitewashed Rejsby Church, whose tower can be seen from far across the open country. The area belongs to the Wadden Sea National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is known for its rich birdlife, sheep grazing on the dikes, and the vast starling murmurations known as "black sun" that dance across the sky in spring and autumn. Rejsby makes a fine base for peaceful cycling and walking along the dikes, and for trips to Ribe, Rømø and the other marsh villages. Here you feel the raw, magnificent nature that has shaped life along Denmark's west coast for centuries.
