Østerild

Østerild is a small village in Thy, in north-western Jutland, surrounded by heathland, dune plantation and the vast open sky that defines this corner of Denmark. It became nationally known when the Østerild Test Centre for large wind turbines was built in Østerild Plantation, where some of the world's tallest prototypes rise above the treetops and can be seen for miles. A viewing platform and signposted trails let you get close to the giant blades and grasp the scale of tomorrow's green energy. Around the village lie quiet farms, pine forest and rich birdlife, with Thy National Park, the North Sea and Vigsø Bay all within easy reach. Østerild is a peaceful base for hiking, cycling and nature experiences, a place where cutting-edge technology and the open, wind-swept landscape meet in a strikingly memorable way.
