Hulsig is a small village on the Skagen Odde headland, pinched between the North Sea and the Kattegat on the road to Denmark's northern tip. It sits amid a vast landscape of drifting dunes and heather-clad moor, and the protected Hulsig Hede spreads around the houses as one of Vendsyssel's most distinctive natural areas. Cranes and meadow birds nest here, and the silence is broken only by the wind and by the Skagensbanen railway, whose small halt still links Hulsig with Frederikshavn and Skagen. From the village, walking and cycling routes lead out into the dunes, and the migrating sand dune Råbjerg Mile lies close by to the south. Hulsig breathes the rugged, light-filled coastal country that has long drawn artists to the region. It is a quiet base for nature, birdwatching and long walks along beach and heath, far from Skagen's summer bustle.
