Ålbæk lies on the east coast of Vendsyssel, facing the Kattegat, roughly midway between Frederikshavn and Skagen. The little town grew up as a fishing hamlet and trading spot and has kept a relaxed, unpretentious mood that comes alive in summer. Broad, pale sandy beaches backed by dunes stretch along the shore, with shallow, swimmer-friendly water, while a small marina brings life and fresh sea breezes off the Kattegat. The town has shops, eateries and a large campsite, making it a popular base for a holiday in northern Jutland.
