Ålbæk

Ålbæk lies on the east coast of Vendsyssel, facing the Kattegat, roughly midway between Frederikshavn and Skagen. The little town grew up as a fishing hamlet and trading spot and has kept a relaxed, unpretentious mood that comes alive in summer. Broad, pale sandy beaches backed by dunes stretch along the shore, with shallow, swimmer-friendly water, while a small marina brings life and fresh sea breezes off the Kattegat. The town has shops, eateries and a large campsite, making it a popular base for a holiday in northern Jutland. From here it is an easy trip to Skagen's artists' colony, Grenen and the migrating dunes, while surrounding heath and plantation invite cycling and walking. Ålbæk blends beach life, nature and closeness to some of Denmark's most famous landscapes at a gentle pace.
