Henne Strand is a classic West Jutland holiday village where wide, white sandy beaches meet some of Denmark's most impressive coastal dunes. For generations it has drawn families to its cluster of holiday homes, set just behind the dunes within easy reach of the sea. The village is perhaps best known for Henne Kirkeby Kro, a celebrated restaurant that has repeatedly been ranked among the finest in the world, giving this small seaside spot an outsized reputation among food lovers. Beyond the dining, the appeal is straightforward and timeless: long walks on an open beach, dune plantations laced with hiking and cycling trails, and steady coastal winds that make the shore a fine place for kitesurfing. The beach is freely accessible at all hours, and its sheer scale means there is always room to find a quiet stretch of your own. Just inland lies Filsø, one of Denmark's restored lakes and a rich area for birdlife, easily combined with a beach day. Henne Strand works best as an unhurried base: rent a holiday home, settle into the rhythm of beach and dunes, and book well ahead if you hope to dine at the famous kro. It is West Jutland at its most relaxed — sand, sky and sea, with a world-class kitchen hidden among the dunes.
