Glass Museum Ebeltoft

Glasmuseet Ebeltoft is a museum dedicated to modern glass art, beautifully located on the waterfront by Ebeltoft Bay on the Djursland peninsula in eastern Jutland. Recognised as one of the world's first museums devoted specifically to glass, it holds an extensive international collection of studio glass ranging from the 1960s to the present day, with works by many of the most celebrated contemporary glass artists. The building is designed to show the art to its best advantage, with large glazed sections that draw in daylight and open onto views of the bay, so the setting itself becomes part of the experience. Alongside the permanent collection the museum stages changing special exhibitions and often hosts glassblowing demonstrations, where you can watch skilled glassblowers shape molten glass at first hand. It stands within the charming old town of Ebeltoft, famous for its cobbled streets and centuries-old half-timbered houses, and close to other attractions such as the frigate Jylland, so it fits naturally into a day exploring the town. Admission is 100 DKK for adults, while young people under 18 enter free, and the museum is generally open daily during the day. Allow an hour or two for the galleries, try to catch a glassblowing session if one is scheduled, and leave time to wander Ebeltoft's historic streets and harbour afterwards.
