Gammel Skørping is the original village core in Rebild Municipality in Himmerland, distinct from the younger station town of Skørping that grew up around the railway. The village sits on the edge of Rold Forest, one of Denmark's largest woodlands, and just a few kilometres from the Rebild Hills with their open, heather-clad landscape. At its heart stands the whitewashed medieval church, a Romanesque stone building that speaks to the area's long history. Around it lie old farmsteads, winding lanes and gently rolling fields that give the place a quiet, rural character. The area is a favoured starting point for walks and cycle rides along forest trails among beech, spruce and the clear springs for which Rold Forest is known. The scenery shifts beautifully with the seasons, from spring anemones to autumn colours. Gammel Skørping offers a peaceful contrast to the busier station town and a taste of genuine Himmerland countryside close to forest, heath and hills.
