Elmelunde is a quiet village on the island of Møn in southeastern Denmark, set among the gentle farmland that rolls toward the sea. Its heart is the whitewashed Elmelunde Church, one of the oldest on the island, standing on a rise that once guided sailors along the coast. Inside, the vaulted ceilings glow with late-medieval frescoes painted around 1500 by the anonymous artist known as the Elmelunde Master, whose vivid biblical scenes influenced churches across the region. Beyond the church, thatched cottages and open fields give the hamlet an unhurried, timeless feel. Elmelunde makes an easy stop on the way to Møns Klint, the island's dramatic white chalk cliffs, or the medieval market town of Stege.
