Amager Strandpark is Copenhagen's large, city-side beach park facing the Øresund, just a few kilometres from the centre. Completed in 2005, the scheme transformed the old bathing beach of the 1930s into a modern coastal landscape. Its heart is the artificial island, roughly two kilometres long, separated from the mainland by a sheltered lagoon. The northern and southern ends each have their own mood, and many combine a visit with a bike ride along the coast.
