Amager Strandpark (Amager Beach Park) is a seaside public park in Copenhagen, located on the island of Amager just a few kilometres from the city centre. It offers a total of 4.6 km of beaches, and from the shore visitors can see the Middelgrunden offshore wind farm on the horizon. The park was first founded in 1934, and in 2005 a 2 km-long artificial island was added, separated from the original shoreline by a lagoon crossed by three bridges. The beach is divided into two distinct sections: the northern part has a natural feel, with winding paths, broad sandy stretches and low dunes, while the southern part is a lively "city beach" with a wide promenade and areas for ball games and picnics, plus a small marina and parking. The shallow lagoon is ideal for children, and there is also a 1,000-metre swimming course for more experienced swimmers. The park is popular year-round with runners, swimmers, kayakers and windsurfers, and it offers outdoor fitness equipment and a spot for diving from a small headland. A grassy area at the southern end known as Femøren is a well-known venue for open-air rock concerts in summer and a favourite among skateboarders. At the southern end of the artificial island a large kayak club provides a café, equipment rentals and sauna facilities, making Amager Strandpark a versatile urban beach for both active days and relaxed sunbathing.
