Virksund sits where the long causeway, built in 1966, separates the shallow Hjarbæk Fjord from the Limfjord in central Jutland. The settlement is tiny but gathers around the water: a lively marina, a bathing beach and a campsite make it a favourite for sailors, anglers and families in summer. From the dam the view stretches wide across the fjord, while a sluice regulates the water level in the sheltered Hjarbæk arm. The area is known for good fishing for sea trout and roach, and the low shores invite quiet walks and birdwatching. In the evening, sunsets over the open water frame the harbour dramatically. Virksund makes a fine base for exploring the Limfjord country near Viborg and Skive, where stillness, sailing and clear Nordic light meet along the fjord's edge.
