Virklund sits just a few kilometres south of Silkeborg, among the most scenic settings in the Søhøjland, Denmark's hilly inland of lakes and forests. The town borders Lake Thorsø and the sprawling woods around Vesterlund, where trails wind through beech and pine. From here it is a short trip to Himmelbjerget, one of the country's highest points, and to the calm waters of the Gudenå river, ideal for canoeing and quiet boating. Virklund itself is a peaceful community with a school, active sports life and easy access to Silkeborg's shops and culture. In summer the nearby lakeshores and bathing spots fill with life, while autumn turns the surrounding forests gold. It makes an excellent base for hiking, cycling and slow days by the water, close to nature yet within easy reach of town.
