Vigersted is a peaceful village in mid-Zealand, a few kilometres northwest of Ringsted, set amid the gently rolling farmland that defines this part of Denmark. At its heart stands the whitewashed Vigersted Kirke, a Romanesque stone church from the 1100s whose vaults hold some of the region's finest medieval frescoes, including biblical scenes and a rare depiction of the Three Living and the Three Dead. Around the church, farms and houses line winding lanes where the pace is slow and fields stretch to the horizon. Its location makes Vigersted a calm base for exploring central Zealand: cycling and walking routes thread through the countryside, and both Ringsted, with its historic St Bendt's Church, and the island's lakes lie within easy reach.
