Vestenskov is a quiet village set amid the flat, fertile farmland of western Lolland, a short drive from the harbour town of Nakskov. Wide skies stretch over hedgerows, church spires and fields of grain, and the Baltic coast is never far away. The village gained international attention as one of the world's first hydrogen communities, where local homes were heated using hydrogen fuel-cell technology through a pioneering renewable-energy project. Today it remains a peaceful rural settlement, its whitewashed church and scattered farms typical of the Lolland countryside. Visitors come for the slow pace, the cycling routes threading between villages, and the open, unhurried landscape.
