Valdemar's Castle on Tåsinge

Valdemar's Castle (Valdemars Slot) is a grand manor house on the island of Tåsinge, just across the water from Svendborg in southern Funen. Built in the 17th century on the orders of King Christian IV for his son Valdemar Christian, it is one of Denmark's most beautifully situated stately homes, standing among woodland and water at the edge of the South Funen Archipelago. For centuries it has been the seat of the Juel and later Iuel-Brockdorff family, and it remains privately owned today. Visitors can tour richly furnished historic rooms and see collections devoted to maritime history, hunting and applied art that reflect the family's naval and aristocratic heritage. The surrounding grounds, avenues and nearby beach make the estate a rewarding day out, and its setting on Tåsinge places it within easy reach of the scenic islands and sailing waters south of Funen. The castle is open daily from mid-morning to late afternoon, with admission of 125 kr for adults and 60 kr for children.
