Ullerslev

Ullerslev sits on the island of Funen in central Denmark, a quiet market and railway town midway between Odense and the bridge port of Nyborg. Once a farming village strung along the main road, it grew when the railway arrived in the nineteenth century, and trains still stop here on the line that links Copenhagen with the Jutland peninsula. The whitewashed Ullerslev Church anchors the older part of town, while modern housing, schools and small workshops spread across the surrounding fields. Travellers use Ullerslev as an easy base for exploring Funen's gentle countryside, its manor houses, hedgerows and coastline, all within a short drive. Cyclists appreciate the flat lanes threading between villages, and the nearby woods and streams offer calm walking. Without grand monuments, Ullerslev rewards those who slow down, offering an unhurried taste of everyday Danish life at the green heart of the island.
