Store Rise

Store Rise is a tranquil village on the southern side of Ærø, one of Denmark's most cherished island communities in the South Funen Archipelago. Reached by ferry and threaded by quiet country lanes, it rewards visitors with the unhurried rhythm of rural Danish life. Its landmark is the whitewashed medieval church, whose slender tower rises above the fields and has guided sailors and farmers for centuries. Just outside the village stands Tingstedet, an impressive Neolithic long barrow that hints at thousands of years of settlement. Store Rise is also home to the island's brewery, where local ales are crafted in the countryside. Surrounded by rolling farmland and never far from the south-coast beaches, the village makes a peaceful base for cycling, walking, and soaking up the gentle, timeless charm of Ærø.
