Sørup

Sørup is a small village in Rebild Municipality, at the heart of Himmerland in North Jutland. Set beside Skørping and close to Rebild, it makes a quiet base on the edge of Rold Forest, one of Denmark's largest woodlands, and the rolling Rebild Hills. Here you find a still corner of rural Denmark, with farms, old houses and fields giving way to heather, beech woods and clear springs. The area is known for its pure groundwater, the folk tales of forest poachers, and the yearly Danish-American Fourth of July gathering held in the Rebild Hills. From Sørup, paths and gravel tracks lead into the forest, where you can hike, cycle or forage for mushrooms. With rail links through Skørping, the village is a convenient starting point for nature outings in one of the country's most beautiful hill landscapes, far from city noise.
