Nymindegab sits on Denmark's west coast, where the wind-swept dunes of Holmsland Klit meet the calm waters of Ringkøbing Fjord. Its name recalls the "new mouth" (gab) that once let the fjord drain into the North Sea before shifting sands sealed it. For centuries fishermen worked these shores, and in the late 1800s the village drew a colony of painters — the Nymindegab painters — who were captivated by its luminous skies, heath and sea. Their story is told at the local Nymindegab Museum. Today the village is a quiet gateway to some of Jutland's finest nature: broad sandy beaches, the sprawling Tipperne bird reserve on the fjord's southern reaches, and endless walking and cycling routes through dune and heath. It remains a peaceful base for anglers, birdwatchers and anyone seeking the raw beauty of the Danish North Sea coast.
