Lustrup lies a few kilometres southeast of Ribe, Denmark's oldest town, in the flat marsh country of southwest Jutland. The small village is defined by farmsteads, scattered houses and open fields that give way to the vast Wadden Sea marshes to the west. Its closeness to Ribe makes Lustrup a quiet base for exploring the historic cathedral town, with its medieval lanes, storks' nests and cosy market square. The surrounding area invites cycling and walking along the Ribe Å river and out into the bird-rich marshland, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea. In autumn the famous starling flocks, known as the black sun, sweep across the sky in shifting clouds. Lustrup itself is still and rural, but here you feel the calm of West Jutland, the broad horizon and the wide, luminous sky that have shaped the landscape around Ribe for centuries.
