Lillerød

Lillerød sits in leafy North Zealand about 25 km north of Copenhagen and serves as the main town of Allerød Municipality. Once a modest village, it grew in earnest after the Northern Railway arrived in 1864, and today it is a busy commuter town where the S-train carries travellers toward the capital and onward to Hillerød. Lillerød is best known for its closeness to forest and nature: Tokkekøb Hegn, Ravnsholt Skov and the protected Møllemose wetland offer walking and cycling routes right on the doorstep. Around the station and pedestrian street you'll find shops, cafés and an easygoing everyday rhythm, while Allerød is repeatedly ranked among Denmark's greenest municipalities. The town makes a comfortable base for exploring the wider North Zealand countryside, with castles, lakes and beech woods all within easy reach.
