Lillerød sits in leafy North Zealand about 25 km north of Copenhagen and serves as the main town of Allerød Municipality. Once a modest village, it grew in earnest after the Northern Railway arrived in 1864, and today it is a busy commuter town where the S-train carries travellers toward the capital and onward to Hillerød. Lillerød is best known for its closeness to forest and nature: Tokkekøb Hegn, Ravnsholt Skov and the protected Møllemose wetland offer walking and cycling routes right on the doorstep.
