Lille Darum is a small village in the flat marshlands of southwest Jutland, part of Esbjerg Municipality and neighbour to nearby Darum. The area is defined by sweeping meadows, dikes and a vast open sky that meets the horizon over the Wadden Sea to the west. It is this closeness to the Wadden Sea – Denmark's largest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site – that makes the village a peaceful base for nature, bird migration and long cycling and walking routes across the marsh. The village's history is tied to farming and sheep-rearing on the fertile marsh soil, and across the open plain you can still sense a life shaped by the sea and the tides. In autumn, with a little luck, you may witness the "black sun" phenomenon, when huge flocks of starlings swirl above the fields.
