Lihme is a quiet village on the Salling peninsula in northwestern Jutland, set among rolling farmland close to the sheltered waters of the Limfjord. Its centrepiece is the Romanesque Lihme Church, one of Denmark's larger and best-preserved granite churches, whose weathered ashlar walls have watched over the parish for some eight centuries. Beyond the village, gravel lanes lead down to the fjord coast, where reed beds, low meadows and wide skies invite slow walks and birdwatching. The surrounding Salling countryside is dotted with manor houses and prehistoric burial mounds, and the medieval moated castle of Spøttrup lies within easy reach. Lihme makes an unhurried base for exploring one of Denmark's least crowded corners — a landscape of fjord light, open horizons and small farming communities where the rhythm of rural life still sets the pace.
