Jørlunde is a tranquil village in North Zealand, set among the rolling farmland of Frederikssund Municipality. Its heart is the whitewashed Romanesque church, one of Denmark's oldest, whose thick stone walls have watched over the parish since the twelfth century. Inside, faded medieval frescoes and a weathered pulpit hint at centuries of quiet devotion. The village holds a special place in Danish cultural history: the young hymn-writer and thinker N.F.S. Grundtvig served here as curate in the early 1800s, and the surrounding fields shaped his ideas about faith, folk life and community.
