Ilskov

Ilskov is a small village in Herning Municipality, set in the heath plains of Central Jutland where the sky feels endless and the land opens into heather, sandy fields and dark conifer plantations. The settlement grew with the cultivation of the heath, that great Danish pioneering effort in which the Danish Heath Society, from the 19th century onward, turned barren ground into forest and farmland. Today Ilskov is a quiet residential place where life moves gently among farms, family homes and the local church. Around the village you can walk or cycle along gravel tracks into the plantations, taking in the shifting colours of the moor and the distinctive silence that only wide, open country offers. The area is a fine base for nature lovers seeking to escape the tourist trail, and lies conveniently close to Herning with its museums, exhibition centre and cultural life. Ilskov is Denmark at its most down-to-earth.
