Hjallerup

Hjallerup lies in Vendsyssel in northern Jutland, part of Brønderslev Municipality, between Aalborg and Dronninglund. The town is best known for Hjallerup Market, one of Denmark's largest and oldest fairs, with roots stretching back to 1744, when it began as a horse market. Every year in early June the town fills with market stalls, a funfair, livestock shows and festival tents, drawing visitors from across the country. Outside the market days, Hjallerup is a quiet, busy little town with shops, schools and a strong community life. The local Mechanical Museum displays vintage machines, cars and farming history. Around the town the open Vendsyssel landscape unfolds with fields, churches and small villages, while both Aalborg and the coast are only a short drive away. Hjallerup makes a good base for experiencing everyday North Jutland and its lively folk traditions.
