Guldager Stationsby lies in the flat, wind-swept countryside northwest of Esbjerg in south-west Jutland. As its name suggests, the town grew up around the railway station when the Esbjerg–Struer line was built in the late 19th century, gradually merging with the older church village of Guldager a little to the west. Today it is a quiet, suburban settlement of detached houses, with a local grocery shop and easy commuter links into Esbjerg. The surroundings are typically West Jutlandic: open fields, sheltering hedgerows and an air that carries hints of the North Sea and the Wadden Sea not far away. The old Guldager Church, known for its distinctive tower, stands within a short distance and testifies to the area's long history. For travellers the station town is less a destination in itself than a calm base for exploring Esbjerg, the coast and the Wadden Sea National Park.
