Experimentarium

Experimentarium is Scandinavia's largest science centre and one of the Copenhagen area's very best days out for families and curious minds of any age. Set in the former Tuborg brewery hall in Hellerup, just north of the city centre, it reopened here in 2017 with around 16,000 square metres of exhibition space — room for more than 300 hands-on exhibits that turn science and technology into something you can touch, push, build and play with.

The whole philosophy of the place is learning by doing. Instead of glass cases and 'do not touch' signs, you get interactive stations where you can experiment with everything from bubbles and electricity to robots, the human body and space travel. Children race from one exhibit to the next, but the displays are cleverly designed so that curious adults are just as easily drawn in.

Plan to spend at least three to four hours here if you want to experience it all — it is far bigger than first impressions suggest. Admission is 215 DKK for adults and 130 DKK for children aged 3–11, and buying tickets online in advance usually works out cheaper. Weekdays are quieter than weekends, and mornings tend to suit younger children best. To get there, take the S-train to Svanemøllen station and walk about ten minutes, or continue on to the nearby Tuborg harbour district.
