Egtved is a small market town in the rolling farmland of southern Jutland, west of Vejle. Its name echoes far beyond Denmark thanks to the Egtved Girl, a remarkably preserved Bronze Age burial unearthed from a nearby barrow in 1921. Laid to rest around 1370 BC in a hollowed oak coffin, she was found dressed in a short corded skirt and bronze ornaments, her story now told at a small exhibition beside the reconstructed mound close to the original site. Beyond this archaeological treasure, Egtved offers the quiet rhythms of provincial Danish life: red-brick houses, a whitewashed church, and lanes that give way quickly to fields, hedgerows, and gentle hills. It makes an easy detour for travellers exploring the Vejle river valley, combining prehistoric wonder with the unhurried charm of the countryside.
