Bornholm Art Museum

Bornholm Art Museum (Bornholms Kunstmuseum) is spectacularly situated on the Danish island of Bornholm, perched above the dramatic Sanctuary Rocks (Helligdomsklipperne) about six kilometres northwest of Gudhjem. Designed by the architects Fogh & Følner, the light-filled building is beautifully integrated into the rugged cliff landscape and frames fantastic views over the Baltic Sea, so that architecture and nature become part of the experience. Inside, the museum houses an impressive collection of Danish art from the Golden Age to the present day, with a special focus on the Bornholm School and its characteristically colourful landscape paintings, which captured the island's distinctive light. An outdoor sculpture park extends the collection into the open air, and from the museum grounds visitors can reach the scenic hiking trails that wind down through Helligdomsklipperne along the coast. The museum lies at Otto Bruuns Plads 1 in Allinge and makes an ideal pairing with a walk in the surrounding nature. Admission is 110 DKK for adults, while visitors under 18 enter free, and most guests spend around two hours here. Opening hours run daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with the museum closed on Mondays; a car is recommended, and there is parking at the museum. The building itself is accessible, though the cliff trails are not. An insider tip is to take the stairs down to Helligdomsklipperne after your visit for fantastic photos of the rocks and sea. Sunshine brings out the best in the cliffs, so combine the museum with a coastal hike on a clear day.
