Assendløse

Assendløse is a small village in central Zealand, set in Roskilde Municipality not far from Viby Sjælland. It lies in flat, fertile farmland, where straight field lanes and hedgerows trace the horizon and the quiet is broken only by tractors and birdsong. The village core gathers around its whitewashed medieval church, which has served the district's farmers as a meeting place for centuries. Around it, farmsteads and houses scatter along the narrow roads, a picture of calm Zealand country life. Assendløse is not a tourist destination in the usual sense, but that is precisely why it is a fine place to experience authentic Denmark away from the bustle of the towns. From here it is a short hop to Roskilde with its cathedral and Viking ships, while the open landscape of central Zealand invites cycling and driving tours between churches, inns and rolling grain fields.
