Aggersund sits at the narrowest point of the Limfjord in northern Jutland, where the water pinches together between Himmerland and Han Herred. The village lends its name to the Aggersund Bridge, which since 1942 has carried traffic across the fjord, replacing the ferry that for centuries was the only crossing here. The setting is defined by broad, bright fjord water, reed beds and abundant birdlife, making it a favourite stop for anglers and walkers. Close by rises Aggersborg, Denmark's largest Viking ring fortress, whose vast circular rampart from the age of Harald Bluetooth is still traced in the fields. Together the sound, the fortress and the bridge tell the story of an ancient crossing place where people have always spanned the fjord. Today Aggersund is a quiet little village, but its waterside position and sweeping views make it a peaceful, atmospheric pause on a journey through North Jutland.
